I could add a 7th: You meet the nicest people through running. And even though we drive our spouses crazy when we obsess about our running exploits, runners do make great friends.
There are psychological benefits of running. I know when I’m out on a long run and get into that ‘zen state’, there is nothing better. And when I’ve finished those hill repeats or track speedwork, I experience total satisfaction that ‘I got ‘er dun!’

Some of my running friends run to eat cupcakes. I run to eat salty snacks. I love my roasted peanuts. I’ve calculated how many extra minutes I need to run after I have indulged. To each her own!
