That old saying, ‘Rules were made to be broken’ applies to running. Certainly in my case I’ve broken them all consciously or through ignorance:
- Stretch before running. Nope!
- Stretch after running. Not for me.
- Not running when sick. I’ve done this so often I can’t remember the last time I didn’t run when I had a cold.
- Speed work. I’m inconsistent. Then when I head to the track I go too hard and get injured.
I’m pretty sure that if I’d been more aware of what I was doing I might have run faster. But the pure joy of just running is what I live for. I just like to go out for a run. If you’re like me…or even if you’re not…this article by Jennifer Gray is all about her lifelong enjoyment of running while breaking all the rules: Breaking the Rules.
What running rules do you break?
Until next time…
