It doesn’t always take a beer, but it helps…
Marcel Gabriels of Belgium and his family have registered for Reggae Marathon, booked their hotels and are now in training for Reggae Marathon December 6. (That’s Marcel and his brother Leo above). Here’s what happened when he mixed beer, cheer and family…and it’s all good!
On a cold Belgian winter day my daughter, her boyfriend and I decided to visit our nephew, owner of ‘De Rijkswacht’, a lovely pub. When my brother and his wife arrived, we knew that ‘more beer’ was our destiny that day. Great smiles and BIG talk.
Since 2014 is a special year for me (turning 60) and ‘under the influence’, I told my drinking partners, that I wanted to run a marathon this year. Then all hell broke loose! My brother and his wife, who ran the marathon of Dublin a few years ago, immediately wanted to join in along with my daughter was already searching the net. Modern technology and Belgian beer, a good combination
After a ‘few more’ we signed a contract to run the Reggae Marathon in Negril this year. My brother, who married last year, will also make it his honeymoon.
I have to agree that I had serious doubts about the family plan but the hotel is booked, first registration is made, first injury is healing…Negril here we come!
One thing to watch out for: My daughter’s boyfriend is a cyclist and has never ran a race before!
Conclusion: Belgian beer is good for your health, but drink it wisely and with friends or family.
Marcel Gabriels
Marcel, we look forward to meeting you and your entire entourage in Negril this December. Let’s plan to connect Friday night at the Reggae Marathon Pasta Party. See you all soon.
Until next time…
