Meet Veronica, she’s a long time Reggae Marathon runner who is excited to return to Negril in December.
Where are you from?
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA)
How long have you been running?
I have been running since 2004.
Why did you start running?
I started running for a lot of reasons: it reduces stress, I feel better, and my friends run. Running is just
fun to me!
How did you hear about Reggae Marathon?
I learned about the Reggae Marathon online while searching for a race to do.
Why did you choose Reggae Marathon?
I did my first full marathon ever at the Reggae Marathon in 2013. I chose it because I wanted to run a
full marathon, I always wanted to visit Jamaica, and the course looked nice, flat and low altitude. My
goal initially was to run a marathon each year in a different location, and this was the first one I chose.
But I liked the Reggae Marathon so much I came back year after year!
Are you coming with a group (or are you by yourself)?
I am coming this year with my partner. He and I have run the race together every year. Over the years I
have brought friends and family to run the race with us.
Anything special you would like to share?
I did my first full marathon at the Reggae Marathon in 2013. I have run the Reggae Marathon every year
since then, including during Covid, when I did a virtual run. I have run the full marathon there, the half
marathon, and the 10k. My favorite is the half marathon and that is what I will be running in 2023. This
year will be my 11th year participating in the event! I have run in many other places, but this is the only
event I have done year after year!
The event is great. It’s well supported, the pasta party is awesome and the finish line activities/music
are fantastic. You can’t beat the location – there is nothing like finishing a race at 7-mile beach!!
Looking forward to December!!
